La Croix And Chelsea Boots

5 weeks ago, I met Patrick and David for an interview in a trendy industrial conference room in the Highlands. They also looked very trendy- rustic GQ color palettes, plaid, denim, Chelsea boots. The place was lit with Edison bulbs. They probably had leather man bags beneath the table. I don’t know, but it felt like an artsy movie. Or a really good commercial- something along those lines.

When we started talking, it was confirmed: these guys are cool. Almost as cool as they looked. Professional, smart, tasteful, kind- and maybe married? They finished each other’s sentences. Dave knocked his water over, fumbled trying to catch it and hit his funny bone as Pat intercepted the bottle. He laughed. After making a self-deprecating joke about his athleticism, Dave laughed too. One of them made a cheesy joke involving their girlfriend somewhere along the lines and I added slightly nerdy and not married (to each other) to the list of descriptors. Some interviewing happened, too, and by the end of the conversation, I felt at home. When we stood up to shake hands again, I was thinking, “Gosh, I really hope I get this internship. And wow, Pat is short. Or maybe I’m just pretty tall. Probably both.”

The rest is Hidden Woods history. My background is really in writing, photography and TV/movie binge watching, so I was especially thrilled to have the opportunity to learn about all things video production. One of the greatest things about an internship at Hidden Woods is that it allows you to learn through well-rounded experience and figure out what you are interested in (and good at)- I’ve already gotten a taste of pre-production meetings and planning, PA-ing and editing on multiple projects. And no, they didn’t pay me to say that, in fact, they’re not paying me at all! But there’s free La Croix in the office fridge. And I actually really enjoy building C stands. But seriously- Hidden Woods is a special place. I’m looking forward to all of the learning, C stand building and La Croix to come- stay tuned for more from the Hidden Woods internship desk. (I don’t actually have a desk, but we’re expanding next month! So I might even get my own chair. Movin’ on up! To be continued…)
